Some of the best 3-year old stallions from the German and Dutch stallion licensings have gathered to face the best of the Danish young stallions at the Danish Warmblood stallion licensing in Herning which makes the event look like a grand finale of the best of Europe
All of the stallions presented for approval at the Danish Warmblood stallion licensing at the MCH Messecenter Herning have been shown on hard surface in front of the licensing committee today. Overall, it looks like a strong collection of stallions.
The 3-year old show jumping stallions were shown in free jumping last night so their presentation on hard surface today was already their second time out in front of the judges and the audience. The collection of show jumpers consists of several very modern young stallions of which many still lack a bit of stallion look.
Strong collection of dressage stallions
The spectators got particularly spoiled with the collection of the 3-year old dressage stallions which stood out like a string of pearls displaying expression, frames and very good gaits. Today the judges and the veterinarian attached to the breeding committee, have focussed on the type and conformation of the limbs.
– The breeders get a wide selection of very good young stallions with different highlights and different bloodlines, says Andreas Helgstrand who has also been present at the major foreign stallion licensings. As a stallion keeper he owns a large number of the young dressage stallions, but he has also kept an eye on the others and claims that he is impressed with the quality of the overall collection.
Exciting Sunday finals
Before the end of the stallion evaluation today, the show jumping stallions are shown in lunge lines this afternoon. Tomorrow morning the dressage stallions will be lunged before the judges, and the show jumping stallions will be free-jumped. The dressage stallions will be shown again in the afternoon where they will be running free in the arena for the judges to be able to evaluate their natural gaits, their balance and their ability to pick themselves up in a change of direction etc.
For all the stallions Saturday is rest day and some of the 3-year-olds will be up for grabs on the Spring auction Saturday afternoon. Sunday is the final day of the stallion licensing. The breeding committee will announce which stallions are approved and which are not, and on top of this, they will name the premium stallions. The young stallions that have been approved for testing will be shown under rider on Sunday night to begin their 10-day observation test.
Final approval of older stallions
In the meantime, the stallions aged 4-years and older have been presented under rider tonight – the show jumping stallions as well as the dressage stallions. All these stallions have either produced a performance test of more than 800 points or achieved sport results at FEI level.
The breeding committee has announced which older stallions have been approved in order for them to be able to compete in the dressage or show jumping classes in Herning. The 4-year old stallions will return in front of the judges on Sunday to compete about the champion titles and awards.
Tonight, the judges as well as the audience were excited about the quality of the dressage stallions. Not least the 4-year-olds have developed very well since their performance test in the autumn.
