Equestrian Community Gathers in Herning for the 46th Danish Warmblood Stallion Show27-02-2026 - 09:27

This year marks the 46th edition of the Danish Warmblood Stallion Show with international dressage and jumping at MCH Messecenter Herning.

Danish Warmblood proudly welcomes participants and spectators to the 46th Danish Warmblood Stallion Show. Since 1980, the association has hosted its annual stallion licensing and equestrian showcase in Herning, growing the event each year into a major international happening deeply rooted in the horse world.

From March 4–8, the breeding association welcomes nearly 1,000 horses and more than 60,000 spectators for five days packed with world-class sport, breeding, and entertainment.

In addition to the Danish Warmblood stallion licensing, the event features international show jumping and dressage competitions. Dressage classes are held at both 3- and 5-star levels. The ECCO Five Star Dressage presents an impressive lineup of international stars, led by Denmark’s Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour with her Olympic partner MSJ Freestyle, Germany’s Isabell Werth riding the Danish Warmblood mare Wendy de Fontaine—her Olympic partner in Paris—and Norway’s Olympic rider Isabel Freese aboard the Danish-owned breeding stallion Total Hope, currently ranked number eight in the world.

Breeding and sport are closely intertwined throughout the event, which takes place across three main arenas: Jyske Bank Boxen, KRAFFT Arena M, and Dansk Hesteforsikring Arena E.

Nearly 90 stallions will be presented for licensing. Depending on age and level of training, jumping stallions are shown either in free jumping or under saddle, while dressage stallions are presented loose, on the lunge, and—if aged four or older—under rider. Special presentation classes are held for licensed stallions, and the Danish Warmblood Young Horse Championships in dressage and show jumping for five-year-old horses are also part of the program.

The two spectacular gala shows on Friday and Saturday evening attract thousands of spectators each year. Audiences are treated to more than three hours of music, dance, international performers, and, of course, horses. This year’s theme is Fairy Tales.

The Hest & Rytter (Horse & Rider) trade fair is a unique meeting place for equestrian enthusiasts. With approximately 260 exhibitors spread across five exhibition halls, visitors can explore everything from small accessories to large, professional horse transporters worth millions. Even the most experienced shoppers will be challenged when the fair opens on Thursday, March 5 at 9:00 AM.
