Thursday, August 3rd, was the first day with competitions at the FEI WBFSH Dressage World Breeding Championships for Young Horses held at Ermelo in the Netherlands – and the DWB horses are off to a great start.

- We had goosebumps when Valerie B entered the arena, said the judges in the qualifier for the 5-year-old horses.

Valerie B by Revolution/Blue Hors Zack (bred by Karin & Peer Guldbrandsen) was dancing under rider Anne-Mette Strandby Hansen, and the pair delivered a top-performance in the arena. The impressive mare scored 9.7 for the trot, 9.5 for the walk as well as for the canter, 9.0 for rideability and a massive 9.7 for perspective/future and that meant a total score of 9.48 and safe win.

Another impressive DWB mare is Quinn G by Quarterhit/Fassbinder (bred by Helen Geervliet). This mare won the Danish Young Horse championships earlier in the year and in Ermelo she impressed once again. Beautifully ridden by Betina Jæger, the chestnut mare gave a great performance, but with a bit of tension. Scoring 8.8 for the trot, 8.5 for walk, 9.0 for canter, 8.8 for rideability and 9.0 for perspective/future, the total score was 8.82. This placed the pair 3rd in today’s competition and also secured them a spot in the finals.

The third DWB horse to be ready for the finals, is the big and impressive gelding Grevens Sirius by Secret/Johnson (bred by Stud Greven). The gelding is ridden by Michale Grønne, and the pair scored a total of 8.52 (with a 9.2 for the canter as the highlight). They placed 9th and are ready for finals.

Tomorrow, Friday August 4th, it is time for qualifier for the 6-year-olds and 7-year-olds as well as the small final for the 5-year-olds who did not qualify directly for the finals.
